Rabbi Yitzchak Luria, known as the Arizal (1534–1572), and his disciple Rabbi Chaim Vital (1542–1620), both among the great Masters known to the Jewish people, instituted the daily reading and study of the Chok LeYisrael; it originally consists of a "spiritual menu" made up of six excerpts drawn from six reference sources: Torah, Nevi'im (Prophets), Ketuvim (Writings), Talmud (Mishnah and Gemara), and Zohar.

The version we know today also includes a teaching of Halakha drawn from the Mishneh Torah of the Rambam, and a text drawn from books of Mussar (Jewish Ethics). These two additions were made by Rav Chida (1724–1806).
In total, this amounts to eight texts per day (forming the basis of a daily study program), or 48 texts per week.

Known, read and studied by our parents for centuries, this work does not today hold the place it deserves. Mr. Moché Elkouby decided to launch the HOK-LE-ISRAEL HABAHIR project, with the goal of producing a bilingual edition of this work, presenting a clear, guided and annotated translation.
To this end, he assembled a large and recognized group of translation specialists, who have just completed the work for the Book of Bereshit (Genesis) in 2 volumes. Access to the study of the founding texts of Judaism is now available to the widest possible audience.

For those who prefer to study the Hebrew text itself, this edition of the Chok LeYisrael also brings welcome innovations.
